About Me

Hi, I’m Benedict (Ben) Cullen — an ecologist, storyteller, and lifelong wanderer of bush tracks and city reserves.

I’ve spent over 20 years working in conservation across Victoria, mostly around Melbourne. From protecting endangered orchids and woodlands to collaborating with Traditional Owners and managing private land conservation, my work is grounded in a deep love for nature and the belief that every patch matters — especially in urban landscapes.

Finding Melbourne’s Nature grew out of that love. It’s a project that brings together my passion for ecology, walking, and storytelling. I spend time out in the field with people who’ve shaped, studied, or stood up for the city’s natural places — having conversations while walking, recording our chats, and sharing them through podcasts, writing, and photography.

Outside of conservation, I’ve also spent years writing and performing music, and I’m fascinated by the way sound, story, and place intertwine. This project is a bit of all of that — an invitation to listen more closely to the land around us, and to the people who help it thrive.

If you’re curious, want to collaborate, or have a story to share, I’d love to hear from you..
